RF15-125 Item Gain Announcements and Kill Count System Not Working

Accepted. RF15-125 is the id a changelog line will quote when it is fixed.

Item gain announcements are not working. I believe they may be tied to the Kill Count system, which isn’t working either.

From what I can see, the system randomly selects a mob that you need to kill a specific number of times. Once you reach the required kill count, you receive a reward. However, you only have a set amount of time to complete the objective.

Reported: Item gain announcements do not appear, and the timed kill count system, where you kill a chosen monster a set number of times for a reward, does not work.

Found: Only the window that lists a monster's kill count and time attack entries is built. Kills are not counted, the timers do not run, no reward is paid and no announcement is sent. This is a whole system rather than a single fix.

Planned fix: Build the kill count and time attack system: count kills and run the timers, pay the reward, and announce the item gained. Nothing more is needed from you for now.

Reported: Item gain announcements do not appear, and the timed kill count system, where you kill a chosen monster a set number of times for a reward, does not work.

Found: Only the window listing a monster's kill count and time attack entries was built. Kills were not counted, the timers did not run, no reward was paid and the game was never told of progress.

Fix: Kills of a monster now count toward its kill count entries, and the reward is paid when you reach the target. A time attack entry opens a timed window on your first kill, and each kill inside it has a chance to pay, up to the entry's limit. The entry then rests before it can open again. The progress indicator and the window update after every kill and when a timer runs out. A kill count left unfinished resets 30 minutes after its first kill. Progress is not kept across a server restart. This ships in the next RF 1.5 update.

To verify:

  • Target a monster with a kill count entry, kill it a few times, and check that the window and the indicator count down.
  • Reach the target and check that the reward arrives and that a message or notice tells you so.
  • Kill a monster with a time attack entry and check that its timer starts and counts down in the window.
