RF455-063 quest gafftail bug

Game data and scripts RF Online: Dragonborn v0.3.0 low · filed by umild10
Review

While doing the Gafftail quest, my account suddenly logged out, and the same thing happened when I tried to log back in. This also occurred during the Fire Frog quest on the Volcano map.

Reported on version 0.3.0

Reported: During the GaffTail quest the client logged out, and it logged out again every time the character logged back in. The same happened during the Fire Frog quest on the Volcano map.

Found: Both GaffTail quests have a kill step whose progress the client shows as a quest item in its quest tracker. An earlier report (RF455-031) found that the client closes when it loads such a quest at login, and the server has since sent those quests only after the character is in the world. Your report shows the client still closes when that progress is updated in the world, on a kill and again after logging in. What the server sends there matches what the client reads, so the next step needs the client's own crash record.

Needed:

  • The server version you are running (shown in the server window or the GoMMO Manager).
  • Whether the client window closed on its own, or showed a disconnected message first.
  • Whether it happened on the first GaffTail kill or later in the quest.
  • The crash record from Windows: open Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs, then Application, and find the "Application Error" entry for RF_Online.bin at the time it closed. Please paste its full text (faulting module name and fault offset are the important parts). If there is no such entry, please say so, because that also tells us something.

Here are the details you requested regarding the GaffTail quest bug:

  1. Server Version: I am running version v0.3.0.
  2. Client Behavior: The client window closed on its own and crashed suddenly back to the desktop without showing any disconnected message first.
  3. Quest Progress: It seems to happen right when looting or receiving the quest collection item from the monster.
  4. Windows Event Viewer Crash Record:

Faulting application name: RF_Online.bin, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x6877133a Faulting module name: RF_Online.bin, version: 1.0.0.1, time stamp: 0x6877133a Exception code: 0xc0000409 Fault offset: 0x0009def1 Faulting process id: 0x8fc Faulting application start time: 0x01dd5854c2cc640a Faulting application path: D:\RFOnline Taiwan Updated\RFOnline\RF_Online.bin Faulting module path: D:\RFOnline Taiwan Updated\RFOnline\RF_Online.bin Report Id: 70cb8f5d-daee-48ba-b415-1580fbf500e1 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: , Error 10/10/2026 09:11:41 Application Error 1000 (100)

Additional Note: It seems this bug isn't specific to the GaffTail quest only. The crash appears to happen on every quest that requires collecting items/drops from monsters.

Please let me know if you need any further information to fix this issue. Thank you!

Reported: The client closes by itself when a quest collection item drops or is looted, on every quest that collects items from monsters, and again after logging back in.

Found: The crash record you sent pointed to the line the client writes in its quest tracker. The server told the client to read an older quest file, while the client's quest text comes from a newer one. On collection quests the two disagree, the tracker line comes out longer than the client allows, and the client closes itself. RF455-064 (the starter equipment crash) has the same cause.

Fix: in the next RF 4.55 update, the server tells the client to read the quest file that matches its quest text. Every quest's tracker line then stays within the client's limit, and collection quests are listed at login again.

To verify:

  • On a collection quest such as GaffTail, loot the quest item and check that the client stays open and the tracker counts it.
  • Log out and back in with the quest in progress, and check that it still shows.
