With a client or world open, Studio is one window in six parts: the top bar, the rail down the left edge, the left panel beside it, document tabs across the middle, the inspector on the right, and the status bar along the bottom.
The top bar
- The menus: File, Edit, View, Tools and Help. Every menu item names its shortcut.
- The game badge: the game and version that are open.
- The project: its name, or Unsaved project with a Save project as… button beside it. See Projects and Install.
- Save while a map is open, and Install… for a game client. An MMO World saves straight into its own folder, so it has no Install button.
- Restart to update when a new version has downloaded.
The rail and the left panel
The rail is the column of icons down the left edge. Each one shows a panel beside it:
| icon | panel |
|---|---|
| Maps | the client's maps; click one to open it |
| Models | every character, creature and item; click one to open it |
| Packs | the client's archives and the files inside them |
| Server | the game server linked to the project |
While a map is in front, the rail grows the map's own panels below a rule: Layers, Objects, Place, Spawns, Tools and Problems, plus Lights and FX for games that have them. The Problems icon carries a count when the map has problems.
Click the icon of the panel that is showing to hide the panel and give the map more room; click it again to bring it back. View > Left panel does the same.
Document tabs
The middle of the window holds what you are working on, as tabs:
- one map at a time, named after the map; a dot after the name means unsaved edits;
- the world graph, for an MMO World;
- one model at a time;
- any number of textures you are recolouring.
Click a tab to bring it to the front. The × on a tab closes it, and so does Ctrl + W. Closing a map saves it first. Opening another map saves the open one and replaces it; opening another model replaces the open model.
Each tab has a toolbar of its own above it: the move, rotate and scale tools for a map, the model's name with reload and screenshot buttons for a model, the before and after switch for a texture.
The inspector
The right-hand panel shows whatever the tab in front has selected: the selected object and the map's settings for a map, the scene, dress-up, spells, files and capture tabs for a model, and the colour controls for a texture.
Resizing the panels
Drag the inner edge of the left panel or the inspector to make it wider or narrower. The edge highlights and the pointer changes when you are on it. Studio remembers the widths.
The status bar
The bottom line says what the tab in front is doing: whether a map's preview is up to date, how many objects it has and how many are selected, whether a server is linked, and the map coordinates under the mouse; for a model, whether hot reload is watching its files. The frame rate is on the right.
Help
F1 shows every shortcut. The full list is also in Keys and controls.
Closing Studio
Close the window or choose File > Exit. If a map or a texture has changes that are not saved, Studio asks first: Save and exit, Exit without saving or Cancel. With nothing unsaved it closes straight away.
