Game clients keep most of their files in archives. The Packs panel opens them.
The archive list
The Packs icon on the rail lists every archive Studio reads in the client: RF Online's .rfs and .rpk files, World of Kung Fu's .cpk files, and Gate to Heavens' .pack files. Each row shows the archive's name, its folder, its size and its kind. Type in the search box to filter by name or folder.
A client whose files are all loose says so, and has nothing to list.
Inside an archive
Click an archive to open it. The panel lists every file inside, with a search box and a count, and the back arrow returns to the archive list.
Select a file, then:
- To project copies it into the project's client files, at the path Studio reads it from, so it replaces the archive's copy everywhere in Studio and is part of the next Install. A file already in the project is not overwritten.
- To folder… copies it to a folder you choose.
- Open texture, for pictures (
.dds,.rft,.tga,.png,.jpg,.bmp), opens it in the recolour tool. Double-clicking a picture does the same.
Extract all… copies every file in the archive to a folder you choose, keeping the archive's own folders.
Repacking
Repack builds a new copy of the open archive with your project's files in place of the entries they name: every file in the project's client files under the archive's folder, at a path the archive holds, replaces that entry. A message says how many entries were replaced.
The new archive is saved into the project's client files, at the archive's own path, so Install copies it into the client with a backup of the original, and Restore last install puts the original back.
Repacking matters most on Gate to Heavens, whose client reads its packs before any loose file: a texture placed loose in the game folder is not seen by the game until it is repacked. Some plain ZIP packs can't be rebuilt; Repack is greyed out for them and says why.
