The Interface panel on the rail opens the open client's own interface as one document: its windows, the controls inside them and the art they draw. Press Open the interface to start. Tools > Edit the interface does the same. Your changes go into the project like every other edit, and Install puts them into the game.
What each game lets you change
Every game keeps its interface in its own files, so the editor offers what that game's files can hold. Anything a game cannot store is greyed out, and the inspector says why.
| game | what you can change |
|---|---|
| Gate to Heavens Classic | where each window and control sits, what it is anchored to and which window holds it, and the piece of the interface art it draws |
| Gate to Heavens | a window's text, style, colour, visibility and size, where it first opens and how big it starts |
| RF Online: Dragonborn, Age of Patron, 1.5 and Golden Age | the sprite pages the interface draws: replace a page, add one at the end of a group, and remove one you added |
| World of Kung Fu | layout, which window holds a control, its art, text, colour and visibility, and new decorative controls |
| DragonSoul | layout, text, colour, visibility, the piece of art a control draws and its style, and new decorative controls |
Finding a window
The Interface panel lists every window, and Find a window or control narrows it by name. Pick a window to show it on the canvas, and pick a control in the list or on the canvas to select it. Fit the screen in the view frames the whole game screen.
Moving and resizing
Drag a control to move it and drag its edges to resize it. It snaps to its window's edges and to the controls beside it; hold Alt to place it freely, and switch Snap off to turn snapping off for good. The arrow keys nudge it a pixel at a time, or ten with Shift. Each drag is one undo step.
The inspector shows the same numbers: X / Y and W / H, the anchors, the Parent it sits in, and Hidden. Where a control is anchored to an edge of its window, moving it changes how far it sits from that edge.
On Gate to Heavens, moving or resizing a whole window sets where it opens and how big it starts for a player who has not moved it themselves.
Art, text and colour
The inspector's Sheet and Source pick which picture a control draws and which part of it. Edit this art opens that picture in the texture editor. Text and Colour change what a label says and how it is drawn, and the Labels switch over the canvas draws each control's text so you can see where it lands.
Revert this control puts one control back as the client has it.
RF Online sprite pages
RF Online draws its interface from sprite sheets, each a set of numbered pages. Open a sheet, pick a page, and:
- Replace from image… swaps the page for your own picture, saved in the page's own format. Keep the page's size, because the game places it at the size it expects. Switch on Replace in all copies to change the same page in the Common copy and every language's copy of the sheet.
- Add a page from an image… adds a page at the end of a group. The game draws it only where something asks for that page number, such as a new item's icon.
- Remove this page takes out a page you added. The client's own pages cannot be removed, because the game asks for them by number.
- Export page as PNG writes one page at its own size, for editing elsewhere.
- Revert this page puts the client's page back.
Checking and installing
Check looks for what would go wrong in the game: art that does not fit its sheet, a control pushed outside its window or off the screen, and a control the game needs that has gone missing. The same findings appear in the project check.
Save writes the changed interface files into the project. Install puts them into the client; on World of Kung Fu it rebuilds the archive the interface lives in, so the game reads your version.
Limits
- Gate to Heavens Classic keeps the same number of interface entries: you can move and re-art every control, but not add or remove one.
- On Gate to Heavens the canvas is a close preview of the game's layout, not the game itself. Check a window in the client before you rely on a pixel.
- RF Online's window layouts are built into the game program, so on RF Online the editor changes the art and not where things sit.
- RF Online 1.5's animated interface movies are shown but not edited.
