A server normally keeps its own accounts: players register on your website or through the launcher, and those accounts exist on your server and nowhere else. Instead, it can let players sign in with the account they already have on this site. Nobody registers twice, and a player who forgets their password resets it here.

This works on every RF Online version and on both editions of Gate to Heavens. World of Kung Fu and DragonSoul keep local accounts only.

Getting a Key

A server key is issued by our staff, one per server, and only for one game. There is no form for it yet: ask on Discord with the game you run and the address your players reach it at. A key belongs to your server, so keep it out of screenshots and shared configs, and ask for a new one if it leaks.

Turning It On

Add the key to settings.cfg and restart the game server and the website:

[oso]
OSO_SERVER_KEY your-key-here

OSO_URL overrides the site address and is only for testing; leave it out. Remove the key and restart to go back to local accounts.

What Changes

  • Players sign in with their oldschoolops.com email and password, in the game and on your website. An account whose email address is not confirmed yet is refused until it is.
  • Registration, name changes and password changes move here. Your website answers them with a pointer to this site rather than doing them itself.
  • Each player gets a local account row on first sign-in, so characters, credits and history are stored on your server as usual.
  • Your staff and bans are yours alone. Staff levels come only from your control panel, and so do bans: nobody on this site's staff gets a level on your server, a player banned from a game here can still play on yours, and a ban you set does not reach any other server.
  • An account banned from this site cannot sign in anywhere, yours included.
  • If this site cannot be reached, nobody can sign in until it is back.

A key issued for one game is refused by a server of another game, and the server logs why.
