Running the server

Linking the project's game server folder in the Server panel, starting and stopping the server from Studio, and reading its log.

The Server panel runs the GoMMO server your project is linked to, so you can install a change and walk into it in the game without leaving Studio.

Server folder

Under Server folder, the panel shows the folder linked to the project and what Studio found in it: its settings.cfg, the game server program and the port it listens on. When something is missing it says exactly what.

  • Link a folder… picks the server folder. With a map open, the map loads the server's objects straight away, as linking on the inspector's Server tab does; otherwise they arrive with the next map you open.
  • Open folder shows it in Explorer.

See Linking a server for what a link adds to the map editor.

Starting and stopping

Under Status:

  • Start runs the server from its own folder, in the background. Its output goes to a log in the project's logs folder.
  • Stop asks the server to shut down cleanly, the same way the server's own stop script does. If it is still running after 35 seconds, Studio ends it.
  • The status line says whether it is stopped, running (with its process number and how long for), stopping, or has exited and with what code.

Studio only ever stops a server it started itself. If a server of the same game is already running, Start refuses and the panel says Already running (not started by Studio), so two servers never fight over one port.

Closing Studio stops a server it started.

The log

Open log opens the full log file, and the panel shows its last lines as they arrive.

The game client

Open the client folder shows the client in Explorer. Start the game with its own launcher as usual.

Install, then restart

The server reads its files when it starts. To see an installed change in the game:

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Install… your project.
  3. Start the server again.
