GoMMO Studio runs on Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with an up-to-date graphics driver. There is no installer: it is one program in a zip.

Installing

  1. Download the zip from the GoMMO Studio page.
  2. Unzip it into a folder of its own, for example Documents\GoMMO Studio. Put it somewhere your user account can write to, because Studio updates itself by replacing its own gommostudio.exe.
  3. Run gommostudio.exe.

Windows SmartScreen may warn you the first time, because the program is new and not widely downloaded yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

The window opens in the middle of your main screen at about three quarters of its size. Drag the edges to resize it; Studio lays itself out again at any size from 1024 by 640 up.

Coming from GoMMO Art or GoMMO Maps

GoMMO Studio replaces both. The first time it runs, it brings over their settings and their recent clients and projects, so the start screen already lists what you were working on.

  • GoMMO Maps projects open as they are, with Open project on the start screen.
  • GoMMO Art mod folders are not read any more. Each project now has a client files folder that does the same job; copy your skins into it. See Editing skins and hot reload.

GoMMO Art and GoMMO Maps keep working if you still have them, but they get no more updates.

Updates

Studio checks for a new version when it starts. When there is one, it downloads it in the background and tells you, and the top bar shows Restart to update. Choose it to switch now, or carry on working and the new version installs itself the next time you open Studio. Unsaved map edits are saved before it restarts.

Every download is checked against its published SHA-256 before it is used. If the check fails, nothing is replaced.

To stop the automatic check, switch off Check at start-up at the bottom of the start screen. Check for updates, next to it or in the Help menu, checks straight away.

If updating fails with a message that the program can't be replaced, the folder gommostudio.exe is in can't be written to. Move the folder somewhere under your user folder, such as Documents.

Which version am I running?

Help > About GoMMO Studio shows the version, the build it came from and the date it was built, with a link to the GoMMO Studio page.

Something here wrong?

Out of date, incomplete, or assuming something it should not. Documentation errors are bugs, and this one arrives tagged and pointed at this page.
