The map editor places and edits what a world holds: monster spawns, NPCs, portals between maps, regions, walls, lights, sounds, resource nodes and props, each something you can click and change, with the creature itself standing at every spawn.
The Maps panel
The Maps icon at the top of the rail lists the open client's or world's maps, grouped the way the game groups them. Type in Search maps… to filter by name or file. Maps you have edited in the project are tagged edited.
Click a map to open it as a tab. If a map is already open, Studio saves it first and replaces it.
The panel also has, where the game supports them:
- New with a name field, in an MMO World: adds a blank map. See MMO Worlds.
- World graph, in an MMO World: every map and portal at once. See The world graph.
- New map from scene…, on RF Online: builds a new map from a 3D scene. See Importing models and building maps.
What a map brings
With a map in front, the rail grows the map's own panels and the window fills in around it:
- The toolbar above the map: the Move, Rotate and Scale tools (W, E and R), Snap to ground, the Fly and Top views, undo and redo, and the Geometry menu.
- The map's panels on the rail: Layers, Objects, Place, Spawns, Lights, FX, Tools and Problems, as the game supports them.
- The inspector on the right: Object for the selection, Map for the map's own settings, and Server for the linked server (World in an MMO World).
- The dock under the map: Problems and changes, folded to one line until you click it.
- The status bar: the preview, object counts, the server link and the coordinates under the mouse.
Save and Install… are in the top bar. The tab's name gets a dot when the map has unsaved edits.
The controls hint
The first time you open a map, the corner of the view lists its mouse and keyboard controls. It folds away into a ? after your first edit; hover over the ? to see it again. All of them are on Moving around a map and Keys and controls.
Opening a map changes nothing
Studio reads the client and draws the map the way the game does. Edits go into your project when you save, and into the game only when you choose Install. See Projects and Install.
