Both tools are on the inspector's Map tab, with an MMO World map open.

Terrain from a heightmap

  1. Under Terrain, set the height white stands for.
  2. Choose Terrain from heightmap image and pick a greyscale PNG or JPEG.

Black is the ground and white the full height, stretched across the map's Ground size, with the image's top edge to the north. Studio writes terrain.glb into the map's folder, shaded grass, earth, rock and snow by height and slope, and points the map at it.

An image beside the heightmap named <name>_color is draped over the terrain instead of the shading, so you can paint the ground yourself.

Objects placed before the terrain stay at their height. Select them and use Drop to ground in the inspector's Arrange section to stand them on it.

Using your own terrain model

Any model file in the map's folder can be the terrain: set Terrain model to it. The map is drawn on it, objects snap to it, and the walkable area is sampled from it.

Walkable area

Under Walkable area:

  1. Set the cell size.
  2. Set the steepest slope a character can walk and the highest step it can climb.
  3. Choose Generate from the geometry.

Studio samples the map and writes a grid named walk, where blocked cells are marked. Paint it to correct it (see The inspector and grid painting), then save. Your exporters read the grid for your server's pathing.

The grid samples only the top surface, so under a bridge or a building's upper floor the ground below is not walkable unless you paint it.
