The Where used panel answers what reads a file: before you change a texture, it tells you every model, item row and map object that will change with it.
Open it with the search icon on the rail, or View > Where used. In the Packs panel, Where used beside a file shows what reads that file.
The index
The first time the panel or an AI assistant needs it, Studio reads through the open client in the background: every model's files, and on RF Online the item and monster tables and every map's objects. The panel answers from what it has read so far, and the line at the top says how far it has got (Indexing, then Indexed with the number of files). A model that could not be read is counted there; point at the count to see which and why.
Studio builds the index again after you open another client or project, after Install and after restoring a backup. Choose the rebuild button at the top after changing client files outside Studio.
The three views
Used by
Type a client file, such as item/weapon/tex/…, in any case and with either slash. The panel lists what reads it, grouped as:
- Models: each model that reads it, with the part it plays (mesh, texture, skeleton, animation or effect) and the file it is read through. Click one to open it in a model tab.
- Table rows (RF Online): the item and monster rows that draw it. Click one to open the Game data table at that row, opening a project copy of the game data first when it is closed.
- Map objects (RF Online): the objects on maps that use it. Click one to open the map; once it has loaded, the object is selected and framed.
- Effects: the effects that read it. Click one to see what uses that effect.
A name nothing reads lists the indexed files whose path contains what you typed.
Model's files
Every file the model in front reads, with its part, its folder and the file it is read through. A project badge marks a file where the project's copy is the one read. Click a file to see everything that reads it.
Unused
Type a folder, such as item/weapon/tex, and choose List. The panel lists the client's files under it, loose and inside archives, that nothing in the index reads. Click one to show it in Explorer, or the folder it is in when it is inside an archive.
It is a cleanup aid and deletes nothing. The list is complete only once the index is.
Follow the document in front
On by default. The panel follows the tab you are working in: the files of the model in front, or what reads the texture in front.
Game data rows of a model
With a model in front and game data for its game, the foot of the model's inspector holds Game data rows, folded until you open it. Drag its top edge to make it taller.
- With the game data closed, it offers Edit a project copy.
- Once it is open, it lists the rows that draw the model in front: the table, the row number and the name. Double-click a row, or choose Open in Game Data, to open the table at that row.
- Edit this row here shows the row's main columns, such as its name, level, hit points, attack, defence and price, in the inspector. A field takes effect on Enter or when you leave it, with the same checks as the table. An edit stays pending, tinted, until you save; a refused one turns red, with the reason when you point at it.
- Save game data saves the pending edits.
Undo these edits from the Game data table, with its Edit menu while the table is in front. The rest of a row's columns are in the table. See Editing game data.
Limits
- Table rows and map objects are listed for RF Online clients only. Every other game lists models and effects.
- Map objects are read from the client's own maps, so unsaved or uninstalled map edits and the server's own spawns are not in the index.
- Units, faces and costume parts are not indexed, so their Model's files view is empty.
- A monster row opened from the panel is found by its row number in the client, which has not been checked against the order of the server's monster table.
- Install waits for an index build to stop before it writes.
- Game data rows reads saved values, so a pending change to a row's model code moves the row only once it is saved. An armour row is listed on every body, even one its wear flags exclude.
