Some problems in RF Online 1.5 come from the game client's own data files rather than from the server. The client checks or displays that data before anything reaches the server, so no server update can change it. Each section below names the file, the record, the field and the value to change.
These edits target the GamesCampus 1.5 client that this server is built against. Another 1.5 build may lay its files out differently.
Before You Edit
- Back up each file first. Copy it somewhere outside the client folder before changing it.
- The files are encrypted. Open them with an editor that reads RF Online
.edffiles, or decrypt, edit and re-encrypt them with a tool that does. A plain text or hex editor shows scrambled bytes. - A re-encrypted file will not match the original byte for byte, because each file carries its own key table. That is expected; what matters is the content it decrypts to.
- Edit the client only. None of these fixes needs a change to your server's files.
These edits were checked by decrypting, editing, re-encrypting and decrypting the files again. They have not yet been confirmed in a running client. If one does not behave as described, report it with the section's name.
Camera Mode Skills
Problem: right-clicking MMOPS First-person, Second-person or Third-person Mode shows "Requires a special effect to use the selected skill/force", and the skill is never cast. Reported as RF15-129.
Cause: the client marks these three skills as needing a special effect that nothing in the game grants, so the client refuses the cast itself.
File: DataTable\SkillForce.edf, in the main DataTable folder, not a language folder. The records are in the skill table.
| Skill index | Code | Name in the client | Field | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 805 | AF5A3 | MMOPS First-person Mode | Need special type | 0 to -1 |
| 806 | AF5A4 | MMOPS Secound-person Mode | Need special type | 0 to -1 |
| 807 | AF5A5 | MMOPS Third-person Mode | Need special type | 0 to -1 |
"Secound" is the client's own spelling. These are the only three skills with a need special type of 0; every other skill has -1. Some editors show -1 as 255.
After the edit: casting a mode switches the camera. On servers newer than 0.2.1, casting a different mode replaces the active one, and Ctrl+click on the active mode's icon returns the camera to normal.
Grade Names
Problem: grade names are blank in the client wherever it shows a grade by name. Reported as RF15-123.
Cause: the client's English grade name file holds three tables of names, one per grade track, and every name in it is empty.
File: DataTable\en-gb\NDCasteGrade.edf.
The file holds three tables in this order: Honour, Battle, Hunting. Each table has 101 name slots, and slot 1 is grade 1. Fill slots 1 to 100 and leave slot 101 empty. Each name is plain text of at most 31 characters. Leave each table's own count (101) and slot size (32) unchanged.
The names are the client's own, taken from its promotion notices for each grade. Within a group, the roman numeral counts up, so "Commoner I" to "Commoner IV" fill four slots in a row.
Honour
Slots 1 to 80, four grades each, I to IV: Lower Class People, Tenant Farmer, Independent Farmer, Powerless Commoner, Commoner, Citizen, Honourable Citizen, Apprentice Mercenary, Regular Mercenary, High Quality Mercenary, Mercenary Master, Mercenary Leader, Apprentice Knight, Semi-Baron, Knight, Minor Lord, Lord, Great Lord, Baron, Viscount.
Slots 81 to 100, two grades each, I and II: Count, Marquis, Duke, archduke, Nobleman, Hero, Royal Family, King, Heavenly King, Emperor.
Battle
Slots 1 to 100, five grades each, I to V: Trainee, Private, Private First Class, Corporal, Sergeant, Trainer, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer, Government Expert, Warrant Officer, Company Officer, Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Major, Colonel.
Hunting
Slots 1 to 80, four grades each, I to IV: Apprentice Gatherer, Gatherer, Gathering Expert, Gathering Master, Gathering Maestro, Apprentice Hunter, Hunter, Hunting Expert, Hunting Master, Hunting maestro, Apprentice Hunter, Hunter, Hunting Expert, Guardian Hunter, Hero Hunter, Apprentice Butcher, Slaughterer, Butcher Master, Butcher Maestro, Butcher.
Slots 81 to 100, two grades each, I and II: Apprentice Slaughterer, Slaughterer, Slaughter Expert, Slaughter Master, Slaughter Maestro, Blood Lord, Scream Lord, Pain Lord, Chaos, Slayer.
Repeated names
The repeats are the client's own text and are kept as they are: Battle has Warrant Officer twice (slots 51 to 55 and 61 to 65), and Hunting has Apprentice Hunter, Hunter and Hunting Expert twice. Lower case in "archduke" and "Hunting maestro" is also the client's.
Only the English file is covered here. The client also has a German grade name file, which is not.
